Innovations Against Poverty challenges the privat sector to develop products, services and business models that can contribute to the fight against poverty and climate change. It is funded by Sida and implemented by SNV in partnership with BoP Inc and Inclusive Business Sweden. Through our advisory and non-reimbursable funding, we are supporting innovative inclusive business models that deliver developmental benefits for the low-income population in both rural and urban areas, while being commercially viable. The challenge fund focuses on 4 countries – Cambodia, Ethiopia, Uganda and Zambia- and in 4 sectors – Energy, Agri-Food, WASH and ICT. IAP challenge fund received over 1000 applications, triple the expected number. 33 top businesses made it to final selection.
Inclusive Business Sweden’s support to all 33 selected businesses is three fold:
- We measure social, economic and environmental impact of the ventures along the implementation phase; this allows us not only to measure impact created by the company and the challenge fund but to also track company’s progress towards expected results.
- Connected to data collection is the learning component of the programme. IAP focuses its learning strategy work on understanding what does and does not work, collecting and analysing data from a global and country perspective.
- Inclusive Business Sweden is connecting the venture with appropriate impact investors worldwide and facilitating the investment process to ensure ventures have the right financing structures for the long-term sustainability and scalability of the initiatives.
