Project InTaCt (Inclusive Textiles and Clothing) mapped the opportunities for developing inclusive business models across supply chains in Southeast Asia, in order to seek new and innovative investment openings for Swedish and international companies in the textiles and clothing sector. Two focus countries were included in the study: Bangladesh and Myanmar, both home to a vibrant industry but in different stages of its development and importance. The project was fully funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and was implemented durng 2016.
Within the textiles and clothing sector, there has been a strong focus on “responsible business” in order to improve worker conditions; however, this study focused exclusively on “inclusive business”. To this end, two research trips have been undertaken to Bangladesh and Myanmar, where factory visits and workshops with engaged stakeholders have been held to find, discuss and develop worthwile business ideas.
