Expand represents our collective vision to make West Sweden the hub for Inclusive Business. With support from Västra Götalandsregionen and the European Union, we are working to expand the minds and markets of West Swedish Small- and Medium- Enterprises (SMEs) while creating shared value and greater impact for the Base of the Pyramid. We strive to reach 400 SMEs plus civil society and academia to create awareness, increase skills and present collaborative opportunities for engaging in the inclusive business space. Expand has three ways of connecting with West Swedish SMEs, civil society and academia:

  1. Road show: We reach out through seminar, lectures and meetings in West Sweden with tailor-made content about inclusive business opportunities.
  2. Pioneers Programme: A few West Swedish SMEs have been selected to become our Expand Pioneers and will receive hands-on support to develop and pilot their inclusive business initiatives with the Base of the Pyramid to create positive impact
  3. Mapping report: We strive to increase the knowledge and skills around the difficulties of internationalization of West Sweden SMEs. Therefore, we have published a report that maps the inclusive business eco-systems in Västra Götaland to give an overview of the West Swedish SME-climate and its sectors, strengths, challenges and needs. Download here

More about the Pioneers Programme

Fourteen fantastic SMEs have been selected to join the Pioneers Programme. They will receive hands-on support during 2018 to explore, test and/or scale up their technologies and business concepts in developing markets. The Pioneers cover a wide span of stages of development, countries of interest and focus areas – water, sanitation and hygiene, digital solutions, energy and transport, textiles and clothing, drones for healthcare, nutrition and waste management.

Some of the Pioneers will be collaborating with students to bring innovation to business challenges. Master students from multidisciplinary fields will be working during two Innovation Weekends to pitch their innovative solutions to our Pioneers. Are you a student interested in getting to know more about the Innovation Weekends happening in April and October 2018? Find out more here or contact directly Black Dot’s crew member Karin Bylund.

Early 2019, is when our investment-ready Expand Pioneers will pitch their business concepts to investors during the a Dragon’s Den event. Social investors are welcome to participate in the Dragon’s Den and take the chance to know more about the Pioneer’s innovative business concepts which positively impact the Base of the Pyramid.
