What do initiatives aimed at alleviating energy poverty in Africa, providing hyper-local weather forecasts for smallholder farmers, empowering women through handicraft in India and distributing water filters throughout 35 countries have in common? Well, apart from being awesome, they were all presented and represented at the Inclusive Business Forum 2017, held last week in Göteborg. Together, these businesses (TRINE, Ignitia, IKEA and Basic Water Needs, respectively) inspired the around 140 participants to be brave, think outside the box, and not be scared to fail – and to think big from the beginning. The Forum’s theme was Scaling for Impact, and this is definitely something these businesses have done: between them they have reached nearly three million people with their different solutions.

Armed with inspiration and insight, Forum participants re-grouped in the afternoon of the event to workshop around ten topics – from growing the global community of inclusive business initiatives to how to build an entrepreneurial hub for innovation in central Göteborg. Preliminary results from the workshops show that innovative ideas and how to collaborate around them are high on the agenda in Sweden and the region – and we are very much looking forward to continuing this highly exciting and increasingly important work.
