Inclusive Business Sweden joined 14 other BoP Learning Labs and representatives from some of the world’s leading companies and development organisations to “push the boundaries of BoP” at the inaugural BoP Global Network Summit in Sao Paulo Brazil on the 7th – 8th of November.
The Summit was opened with an inspiring presentation by Professor Stuart Hart, President of Enterprise for a Sustainable World, author of “Capitalism at the Crossroads” and one of the world’s leading authorities on inclusive business with the base of the pyramid. Subsequent presentations were made by the Presidents of Tetra Brazil, IBM Brazil, Natura, and CleanStar Ventures as well as representative from the William Davidson Institute, Novelis and Coca-Cola Brazil amongst others.
The BoP Learning Labs presented a wide array of case studies showcasing initiatives they have worked with including solutions for low-cost housing in India, solar kiosks in Madagascar, mung bean cultivation in Bangladesh, entrepreneurial programmes in Brazil and Tunisia, and mobility for farmers in Mozambique. Our own Mike Debelak presented his research “The Bumpy Road to the BoP” on the challenge of distribution to the poor. All these cases were combined into an inspiring publication, “Raising the Base of Pyramid Through Enterprise”, which can be found here.
The summit was followed by a meeting of the BoP Learning Labs on beautiful Ilhabela, where worked to strengthen the network and enhance possibilities for collaboration globally.
